In the early days of the
GAA there are stories of clubs being formed in cow sheds, behind ditches and
under bushes. That was over one hundred years ago. Nowadays the initial meeting
to form a club would most likely be held in a heated room with soft chairs,
possibly with carpet under foot and probably a laptop.
For Eire Og Corra Choill
Camogie Club it seems as though time has stood still. When a few interested
people gathered an under thirteen team and got them ready to compete, the County
Board gave us just two days to form a club. So while our coach Tanya Johnson,
assisted by Tom Kenny put the girls through their paces, Liz Roche produced a
pen and paper and Eire Og Corra Choill Camogie Club was formed. This took place
on the 24th August at the training ground at Donore on a carpet of
green grass with the heat and light provided by the sun.
Having since competed in
many county matches and through the efforts of fund-raising activities, the Club
is going from strength to strength. We would like to invite all girls, from the
age of five, who are interested to come along to the training sessions at 11am
on Sunday mornings at Donore, opposite Mondello Park.
The Club would like to most sincerely thank:-
Richie Whelan Menswear, Naas
Paul Fitzsimons of Hydragroup Ltd.
David Mongey of Mongey Communications
for their generous contributions to the Club.
